Mission - Misión
Pied Piper Theatre is a community-based organization in Northern Manhattan that nurtures children’s artistic and life skills through theater, music, and dance production. Through the creative process, young people ages 6-18 from different cultural backgrounds experience the power of collaboration, joy of performing, and the reward of collective accomplishment. Our safe and inclusive environment cultivates community, resilience, and empathy - values that participants will carry with them both on and off stage. The theatre also gives Northern Manhattan residents of all ages the chance to be audience members to four full-scale theatrical productions per year.
Pied Piper Theatre accomplishes its mission through:
Production: Students work under the guidance of theater professionals to stage four fully produced shows. The children’s group performs a play during the fall and spring. The teen group performs a fall play and spring musical. Students learn to collaborate, respect differences, and experience the excitement of live theater.
Mentorship: Pied Piper Theatre’s teaching artists encourage students to become comfortable taking creative risks as they develop their skills and self-confidence. Graduates of Pied Piper return as professionals to lead workshops in singing, music composition, playwriting, make-up, stage combat, and circus arts.
Peer connection: The Pied Piper Theatre Actors' Society is a board of passionate teens who connect the theater and the community through events, volunteer projects, and outreach. Actors' Society is a wonderful opportunity for teens to take on leadership roles and promote friendships and collaboration with peers and adults.
